Back to School
Message from the Principal
It is with great excitement and humility that I welcome you to the kickoff of the 2019-2020 school year.
As the new Principal, I’m excited to return “home” to the North Central campus.
Originally from Florida, my wife, Elle, and I, now live in Houston with our two children, Oliver (6) and Sofia Micaela (3). As a family, we love surfing, swimming, baseball, and soccer. When we can, we travel to visit family in Florida and Perú. Before working at the YES Prep Northwest and Northside campuses, I was the Director of Academics and then the Resident School Director here at North Central. As Michelle LaFlure (former School Director) begins the work of opening our YES Prep North Central elementary school, I am thrilled for The Osborne family to once again be a part of the Trailblazer family.
For the past 15 years, the students, families, and staff of YES Prep North Central have worked relentlessly to become one of the best secondary school options in Houston. This work has not gone unnoticed as the TEA (Texas Education Agency) accountability ratings has recognized YPNC as a great school. Similarly, the US News and World Report Best High Schools, has ranked YPNC as the #270 high school in the United States and #46 in the state of Texas. This is an incredible achievement for our North Central community.
As we begin the 19-20 school year, it is important to note that we still have room for improvement. Even with our success, we need to continue to raise the bar for our students as we work to prepare them for college and career opportunities. This year we look forward to partnering with you to ensure all students have a safe and nurturing school environment and engage in rigorous academic work every class period, every day. Thank you for your support and the commitment to ensure your student is ready and prepared to learn each day.
Over the next few weeks please read parent notes and keep an eye out for communications coming home with students. Teachers will be communicating information regarding academic assignments, grading, required materials, and events for families to interact with teachers.
I look forward to the next chapter as we continue to Trailblaze together!

Student Transfers: YES Prep allows current YES Prep students to transfer to a different YES Prep campus as long as approval is granted and space is available at the campus of preference. There are three types of Student Transfers: Sibling Transfers, Address Change Transfers, and Family Support Transfers.
*For specifics regarding transfers to Partnership Schools (YES Prep Hoffman, YES Prep Eisenhower, YES Prep Northbrook Middle, and YES Prep Northbrook High School) please refer to the guidelines under the Partnership Transfer Requests section in the Student Handbook.
Legal guardians must update their child’s immunizations. When enrolling your child in school, be sure to bring a signed record of your child’s current immunizations, signed to enroll provisionally if the required immunization process has begun. Your child can remain in school after 30 days in they have provided YES Prep with a record indicating you are:
1) in the process of receiving immunizations OR
2) bringing an affidavit indicating your child cannot receive vaccines or is choosing not to receive the recommended vaccines.
If you cannot provide YES Prep with the immunization records or one of the two above documents. YES Prep may require the student to stay home until the immunizations are complete.
Some organizations offer free immunizations to eligible children through their regular healthcare providers such as Texas Vaccinations for Children. Others, like a few branches of the Houston Public Library, offer free immunizations during specific hours on certain days of the month. For more information about required immunizations see the Immunization Fact Sheet or call Health Services at (713) 349-7423.
